Pink Balloons

Long Ago, there was a young woman who visited Boston when she was 16. Her mind littered with teenage anxst and worries over her future as an adult, this young woman accidentely happened upon a man who gave her a pink balloon. She wore the pink balloon about her wrist for one whole day, she played with it, embraced the stares of people on the train, and walked around in wonder of the way it reacted to the wind, the light, and social expectations. The balloon, in its simple color and presence, quietly transformed her from the mentality of a 'young woman' to a girl. There are power in gifts, power in childhood.

What's your story? Please share them in the comments section.

Really jazzed? Join the movement, all it takes is a balloon and a gift.

  1. Oh, hi! I was just seeing my sister's pictures in an art show at SLU. When we left, there was this balloon claiming to be a present for me! Yay! So I took it along with me! What a fun surprise! And the little guy inside the weight is so cute! Thank you, balloon!

  2. Hello! We are vacactioning in St. Louis for a girl weekend. My sister & our friend are from Ohio and I am from Iowa. We were walking downtown near the Catholic Church and saw a balloon peeking at us from behind an art wall. We went around it and found your balloon! What a cool idea and fun adventure! We'll share this story with our friends back home!

  3. Hi. The balloon left at the Tivoli Theatre, 6350 Delmar in The Loop, sadly drew little reaction from passers-by. One person picked it up, then dropped it a few inches away. Then a group of college-aged young men split around it. One of them popped the balloon! I picked it up, so that the remains would not litter the sidewalk. So sorry the experience was not as lovely as those above...

  5. My wife and I were walking through the Laumeier sculpture park when we saw this balloon swaying in the breeze. The gift was a large plastic strawberry with bubbles inside. :) We continued taking pictures with the balloon in them. We love this idea and will pass it on. Blessed be

  7. Last night, Friday, April 17, I was on my way home from dinner and dessert with my family and remembered that I still needed to mail some stuff for work. Well, instead of going to the post office as I usually do, I decided just to drop it in a mailbox close to home. As we were getting close, I told my 12 year old son that there was a balloon on the mailbox. I wondered what it was. He jumped out of the car to mail and of course looked at it. I aked him from the car what he was doing. He said that there was a note and read it out loud to me. It said: pinkballoonproject.blogspot.com and the otherside of the note read: 'whoever you are, this is a gift for you!' I told him to go ahead and take it. I didn't do anything with it last night because it was fairly late but today, I did.

This is a very cool project. I am going to continue this project by placing the balloon somewhere else. I hope that the next person will do the same.

    Happy Spring!!!!!!!

  8. I found a balloon, with only a tag, popped and tied to a tree. Despite, I was still completely delighted and I took it with me.
I found it in forest park near the Art Museum. <3

  9. Maria from April 17th.......May 5, 2009 at 10:43 AM

FYI: It may have taken me a couple of weeks to pass on the balloon but I did. I tied it to a light pole yesterday at an Orthopedic Clinic in Chesterfield. I sure hope that someone finds it and blogs...........
